Experience
Several years ago, I had intentions of getting a degree in Environmental Science, only to discover that Biology wasn't really my subject. However, I worked two semesters as a tutor in basic Enviro. Sci. for Chattanooga State (our local community college). In fact, much of my time at Chatt State was spent informally tutoring my classmates, particularly in my English classes. I became quite skilled at coaching reluctant writers through five paragraph essays - and I had a good time doing it! This also occurred in my college algebra class, where I generally came in early to help fellow students through their equations. I'm a good tutor because I'm both patient and a good listener. I have taken several teaching bridge courses in the English department, so I've had some experience with the creation of lesson plans and syllabi, if necessary. On my SAT, taken in 1999, I scored 1220: 630 on the verbal section and 590 for math. My strength is undoubtedly English, but I could also help out in the areas of Algebra and Organizational Skills.

Hobbies
I love reading, particularly fiction, but I'm definitely not a bookworm. I also enjoy hiking, swimming, and playing with my dogs. I am also a member of my local roller derby team. More than anything, though, I love to cook - especially with friends.
